The Zonta Club of Sanibel and Captiva has a diverse membership of women with varying ages and an interesting range of professional and personal life experiences. From artists, bankers, lawyers, mothers, nurses, educators, sisters, gardeners, accountants, we cover a wide range of interests and pursuits. The women have come from all over the country to live in Sanibel and give back to the community in which we reside.

As a service-oriented organization that is committed to educate and empower women locally, the members of Zonta invest over 1,500 hours per year* supporting important regional organizations that help to empower women. The following is a list of the organizations we support and an approximate number of hours we volunteer annually.

Educational support (priority) and emergency funds for female residents facing crisis

Program to support 18-year-olds aging out of foster care and female caregivers who take in children of family members

Emergency medical and dental care for female clients on the islands

FOCUS program to educate teen mothers

Initiation of new program ArtReach on the Streets, for pre-teen awareness

Healing Stitches program and sewing skills for immigrant women

Attendance at PACE day, a field trip to State Capitol, and other incentives

Literacy classes and support services for immigrant women

Economic empowerment for women in recovery

Camping experiences for adults with disabilities in Southwest Florida

This list does not cover all the other volunteer responsibilities our members assume for other non-profit, environmental or community services and activities. We are a busy and active group of women!

Recent Projects

There are many ways you can help support our mission of empowering women. Below are just a few of the many Service Projects our members supported in recent years.

F.I.S.H. is a human services organization located in Sanibel whose mission is to lend a helping hand to those who live, work or visit here. With the COVID-19 challenges in 2020, Zontians organized a drive among members for non-perishable food items to be picked up on from homes throughout the island and delievered to F.I.S.H. community food pantry. Zontians responded generously and were happy to support such a good cause.

Blood Drive

Women’s Health is of primary importance to our members and the Club was proud to sponsor a blood drive in conjunction with Lee Health this past January. Every pint of blood donated benefited two patients.

Women Build 2019

Habitat Women Build

Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program is one of our favorite projects every year. This is very personally rewarding for us to put some physical labor into transforming a house or two for single mothers and their children to call home. The health and safety of these women and children is paramount to the success of their families.

Community Collection

Each year, the Zonta San-Cap Club plans a Community Collection Day, boosting support for the women being helped by our service projects,. The event normally takes place the first Saturday in April in the front parking area of the Sanibel Congregational Church, across the street from Periwinkle Place. Watch for more announcements closer to the date. Make plans now to clean out your closets, drop off your donations, and you will be helping the women in our community.
