As more and more in the community receive COVID-19 vaccinations, and since the event is suitable for outdoors, the Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva is bringing back its annual Community Collection Day. The 4th annual event is set for Saturday, April 17. As before, it will be held in the parking area of the Sanibel Congregational United Church, 2050 Periwinkle Way, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon.
“We had to cancel last year’s Collection Day due to the coronavirus,” said Service & Advocacy leader Nancy Swofford. “We are delighted to bring back an event that helps many of our service partners and also provides an opportunity for islanders to clean out their closets and garages ready for spring.”
The event will benefit local non-profits with which the club has a service relationship, all of which work to improve the lives of women and girls. Since donations are tax-deductible according to IRS rules, Zonta members will be on hand to collect items and issue tax receipts.
Bring gently-used and new items for these groups to use in their mission to empower women, a goal shared with Zonta. Check your closets and storage spaces, drop off the donations—a drive-through option will be available—and help women in our community. Following is a partial list of items requested:
Abuse Counseling & Treatment of Fort Myers (ACT): Toiletries of all kinds, NEW twin size bedding, towels and washcloths, baby items, pots and dishes, everything for setting up home;
Angel Wings: Gently worn or new women’s clothing and shoes, household goods for setting up home, personal hygiene products (shampoo, toothpaste, etc.), paper goods including toilet paper;
Community Housing & Resources (CHR): Baby stroller, toddler clothes, toys and diapers;
