PACE - PACE Center for Girls Lee County
One of 18 centers in a highly successful Florida network of facilities for at-risk girls ages 12-18, the PACE Center for Girls Lee County operates a year-round, non-residential, accredited alternative school in Fort Myers, under state and local school district guidelines.
Girls come to PACE as a result of issues such as school failure, truancy, parental conflicts and foster care problems, and may stay a few months or a few years. The goal is to return the girls to the regular school setting or help them earn a GED.
A Zonta partner since 2007, PACE moved in mid-2014 to a new, larger and more permanent facility, able to accommodate an additional 60-100 girls annually. Zonta’s grant currently funds part of the salary of a Volunteer Coordinator position, dramatically increasing the number and effectiveness of all volunteers. Zonta members also provide support for extra-curricular activities that add value to the regular curriculum, and offer personal wisdom and guidance as appropriate within the class structure.
