Addiction, Recovery and Mental Health Services for Women
Overview:
Zonta is providing grant funding and active service to two Lee County agencies: Southwest Florida Addiction Services (SWFAS), and Abuse Counseling and Treatment (ACT).

Mission:
The ARMS team uses the skills, knowledge and resources of its members and of the club to provide encouragement, support, enhanced self esteem and role modeling to women in the process of recovery from mental health issues and substance abuse.
Zonta Partnership:
Zonta’s partnership with SWFAS has extended for more than a decade. Club grants, advocacy, and enrichment opportunities are directed to help women who participate in SWFAS’ special Transitional Living Center, supporting their reach to sustained sobriety. This year, grants will update computer equipment and software for the residents’ use, and also help fund short-term educational assistance for job skills and the women’s return to work and family life. Zonta members regularly program and conduct lively small-group sessions with the women on topics of personal growth, work skills, and healthcare. Zontians involve the SWFAS women in the annual Sanibel beach clean-up, and then host a beachside picnic with them.
This year, the club reconnects with ACT, Lee County’s domestic violence agency and emergency shelter for abused women and children. The new Zonta grant will help fund the addition of a new bilingual counselor for therapy services to Hispanic women. Zonta members also expect to bring small-group programs to women receiving ACT services. |
