Human Trafficking Awareness

Overview:

Since 2004, this Zonta Club has taken a leadership role in spearheading community action and awareness in the fight against human trafficking. Through participation in Lee County activities with law enforcement, human service agencies, faith congregations, and Florida Gulf Coast University, together with programs and presentations to Zonta clubs and international meetings as far as Australia, club members have given funds and volunteer time to combat human trafficking.

Mission:

Zonta will continue grants to two partner agencies in Lee County: Human Trafficking Awareness Partnerships (HTAP), and the Guatemalan Rural Adult and Children’s Education (GRACE) Project. Funds to HTAP will underwrite several ongoing outreach efforts, including the participatory ARTREACH painting projects with area high school students, video recording of an original anti-trafficking play created by Cypress Lake high school students, and a community forum and awareness-building program on Sanibel.

Zonta Partnership:

Funds to GRACE this year will cover workshop materials and training sessions both in Lee County and in Guatemala to address reproductive health, self-help, and options in the face of domestic violence and trafficking.
Zontians participate in and volunteer at Lee County task forces and information programs.
